Iowa’s undefeated season has come to an end.

With four turnovers on offense, the Hawkeyes couldn’t make up enough ground to down Michigan, losing 10-3 to the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.

Things got off to a rough start for Iowa — running back Mekhi Sargent fumbled on the Hawkeyes’ first offensive play. Nate Stanley added 3 interceptions to the turnover tally.

After Michigan built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, Iowa couldn’t find a way to retaliate, answering with only a 22-yard field goal by Keith Duncan.

The Hawkeyes threatened in Wolverine territory numerous times but failed to finish drives. Time and again, Iowa’s defense bailed the team out, but the offense couldn’t put points on the board.

The Wolverines had chances to add to their lead twice with field goals but missed a 58-yard attempt before halftime and a 37-yard try in the fourth quarter.

Stanley completed 23 of his 42 pass attempts for 259 yards and the 3 picks. He was also sacked eight times.

On the ground, Toren Young led the way with 40 yards on 8 carries, and Tyler Goodson and Mekhi Sargent added 15 and 12, respectively. Stanley’s sack totals — which totaled 65 yards for a loss — brought the Hawkeyes to just 1 total rushing yard.

Goodson, who served as Iowa’s only means of moving the ball at points in the first half, also added 4 catches for 63 yards.

The Hawkeye defense gave up 147 yards through the air and 120 on the ground.

Next, Iowa will host Penn State on Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
