Identity released of student who brought gun to Tate High School

UPDATE: The identity of the student who brought a loaded gun to Tate High School has been released.

Jeremiah Neal, 19, Coralville, is charged with carrying weapons on school grounds and possession of a weapon as a felon, according to a release. Both of these charges are Class-D felonies.

The Daily Iowan reported earlier that a warrant has been issued for Neal’s arrest.

ORIGINAL STORY: Iowa City police responded to a report on the morning of Sept. 18 of a Tate High School student bringing a gun to the school in his backpack, according to a release from the city of Iowa City.

When officers arrived at the school, the release said, they took possession of the backpack. After getting a search warrant, officers reportedly found a loaded gun in the bag.

No threats were made to anyone in the school, the release said, and no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
