A missing Iowa City man is believed to have been found dead Wednesday during an organized search, the city of Iowa City announced in a news release.

The discovery made Wednesday during the search is believed to be Nikolai “Niko” Stielow, 21, who had been missing since the night of May 25.

The release said Iowa City and Coralville Fire Departments, with the assistance of the K9 Alliance of Iowa, discovered the body around 1:19 p.m. Wednesday in a heavily wooded area south of Whiting Avenue and west of Kimball Road.

Authorities did not find signs of foul play, according to the release. During the investigation, the Johnson County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

“The family of Niko appreciate all who have assisted and expressed concern over the last few days, and request privacy during this difficult time,” the release said.
