Authorities have issued a warrant for a Coralville man for breaking into the residence of his child’s mother and assaulting her.

Alvin Abbott, 18, has been charged with first-degree burglary, child endangerment, domestic-abuse/assault impeding flow of air/blood, and first-offense domestic-abuse/assault causing injury or mental illness.

According to the arrest affidavit, Abbott appeared at the woman’s residence requesting a suitcase of his belongings. Once Abbott was given his property, the affidavit said, he requested to see his 8-month-old son.

When the woman declined and began to close the door, the affidavit said, Abbott forced his way into the residence. Abbott then began to assault the woman, punching and choking her. The woman had to set the baby down numerous times in order to prevent the child from being injured.

Abbott was later arrested on Nov. 4 and charged with two counts of interference with official acts.

First-degree burglary is a Class-B felony.
