Coralville woman accused of child endangerment and causing bodily harm

A Coralville woman has been accused of child endangerment causing bodily injury.

Ashley Rempt, 27, 425 6th Ave., Coralville, was charged on Oct. 15 with three counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury.

According to the arrest affidavit, Rempt scratched her 4-year-old son with her artificial fingernails while shopping at Walmart, leaving bloody scratches from his ears to his mouth. In another instance, Rempt strangled and slapped her 7-year-old daughter so hard that a handprint was visible on the girl’s cheek for several days after the incident. The 7-year-old daughter also reported that Rempt had shoved a bar of soap into her mouth on numerous occasions, causing bleeding from the gums and nose.

Child endangerment causing bodily injury is a Class-D felony.
