As the Major League Baseball season comes to an end, college fall baseball is taking to the field and with 16 new players, the fall season is an important practice run for the University of Iowa baseball team.

The team started their fall season strong with a win against the Ontario Blue Jays on Sept. 19.

They have four returning positional starters this year and will have to fill the spots left by last years graduating seniors.

But Head Coach Rick Heller said he’s happy with what he is seeing from the returners.

“We’ve got a good set of captains … and they’re doing a great job,” he said. “The seniors, the older guys, they’re stepping up … really stepping in and filling the void from a leadership standpoint.”

Heller said team is looking forward to becoming tighter knit this season.

“First and foremost we need to gel as a team and become a family, it just doesn’t magically happen,” he said.
