Hogan, after entering the transfer portal in the middle of the season at Iowa, transferred to Kentucky after last season. Hogan announced a transfer shortly following Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz’ remarks in a postgame press conference of the 28-21 win over Nebraska last year. The Iowa quarterback room, at the time, had injury and illness. Ferentz said, “I didnt know who the hell was going to start [before the 2021 Nebraska game]. During the press conference, reporters asked Ferentz about quarterback Joe Labas. “I’m not sure weve ever gone into a game where our one and twos are gone, not in the roster,” Ferentz said. “Fortunately we had an extended period here. I think the last two weeks Joe has really done a lot of good things. Seems like hes more comfortable. All that being said, its going to be his first play in college football…. Hes a competitor, hes tough. Im sure hes going to do a great job for us.”
