Cause of death determined for man found dead outside city Rec Center

The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office released the results of 24-year-old Paul Biagas’ autopsy, according to a press release from the city of Iowa City.

Biagas was found lying in the snow on Jan. 2 outside of the Robert A. Lee Recreational Center and was dead when police officers arrived on the scene.

The Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be hypothermia due to the extreme cold, the release said, and the death was an accident.

Biagas was also heavily intoxicated at the time, the release said.
