As Phil loads groceries for a campaign event in the back of his stick-shift jeep, a sign displaying the increase of Supervisors salary is within arms reach. Phil sees the steady increase in salary as a problem to be fixed and said, “As a taxpayer and as a candidate I think we can do better.” (Ayrton Breckenridge/The Daily Iowan)

After servicing a vehicle, Phil sweeps out his shop to end his workday. Phil sees the value in schools placing value in careers outside of college and plans to invest a portion of his salary to schools in Johnson county who have agriculture or Future Farmers of America (FFA) programs, so students get the opportunity to experience agriculture and trades. After a day of working and campaigning, Phil and Anita walk to Kinnick Stadium for Clash at Kinnick. Most days, the couple both go to their separate jobs and don’t see each other until the evening. (Ayrton Breckenridge/The Daily Iowan)

Anita has supported Phil in all of campaigns and knows what it takes to bring to the table. “He knows what it is to tighten a belt when things are hard. He knows how to cut the expenses to that you come out even on certain things and still be able to function in that business,” Anita said. (Ayrton Breckenridge/The Daily Iowan)
