Johnson County sheriff’s deputies charged a local man with possession of marijuana after an search of his vehicle allegedly yielded more than 50 grams of marijuana.

Estevan Jackson, 21, 4913 Oak Crest Hill Rd. S.E., was charged Monday with possession of marijuana — third or subsequent — and failure to affix a tax stamp to a taxable substance.

Complaints said deputies stopped Jackson for a traffic violation in Hills on Sept. 19, and he was cited for driving with a suspended license and for not having insurance. The vehicle was then impounded.

Upon a search of the vehicle by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the complaint said two plastic bags of marijuana were located, totaling 55 grams.

Possession of marijuana — third or subsequent offense — is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of $6,250.

Failure to affix a tax stamp to a taxable substance is a Class-D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $7,500.
