The Undergraduate Student Government’s rideshare program will give students a $5 Uber voucher starting March 18.

In an email to The Daily Iowan, director of communications Matt McDonnell wrote the program is shifting start dates from March 1 because of more time needed to finalize financial details between them, the UI, and Uber.

USG is partnering with Uber to provide vouchers for students, to help promote safer transport options for students, and the program is funded by USG’s budget. It’s budgeted to cost $8,500, with 1,700 vouchers being made available.

McDonnell wrote emails and other advertising materials about the program that will be shared on campus starting the week of March 11. The first use of the Uber ride vouchers will officially start on March 21.

The vouchers will still be available for students to use until all vouchers are used up, or until the end of the semester.
