George Kittle is only in his second season in the NFL, but he is already proving that he is one of the best tight ends in the league – and in San Francisco 49ers history.

Kittle, who received his first Pro Bowl bid in 2018, broke the NFL record for tight-end receiving yards in a season with 1,377, passing Travis Kelce, who set the record with 1,336 early Sunday before Kittle took over.

He also snapped San Francisco’s record for receptions by a tight end in a single season with 88, breaking Eric Johnson’s mark of 82 that was set in 2004.

The former Hawkeye finished with 9 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown – including a 43-yard score to break the tight end receiving record – in a 48-32 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Kittle has experience breaking franchise records. In Week 14, Kittle became the first San Francisco tight end to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. He racked up 210 yards – all in the first half – in the same contest against the Denver Broncos, nearly breaking the NFL record for receiving yards by a tight end in a game.

Kittle hauled in 88 passes for 1,377 yards, and 5 touchdowns in 2018. With the 49ers’ season coming to an end, Kittle’s next action will be in the Pro Bowl, which is set to take place Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
