Iowa City man accused of abusing, threatening a woman

Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of kicking and choking a woman.

Zamir Hines-Smith, 26, 2001 Keokuk St., was charged Nov. 9 with domestic-abuse assault impeding air/blood flow and obstruction of emergency communications.

According to the arrest affidavit, Hines-Smith kicked, choked, scratched, and pulled the hair of a woman. When she threatened to call the police, Hines-Smith took her phone and threatened to kill her. The woman was able to lock Hines-Smith out of the apartment and call authorities.

Domestic-abuse assault impeding air/blood flow is a Class-D felony.
