Suresh Gunasekaran has just been named the new CEO of the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, beginning Nov. 15 pending approval from the state Board of Regents.

UIHC announced the decision Monday. In a press release, Gunasekaran reported feeling fortunate for being selected.

“I am excited to join a nationally recognized health care organization and work alongside world-class faculty, caring clinicians, and dedicated staff to make a difference in the lives of all Iowans,” Gunasekaran said.

Gunasekaran’s additional work experience includes currently serving as the chief operations officer for the University of Texas-Southwestern Health System.

The selection comes after previous UIHC CEO Kenneth Kates announced his intention to step down from his post atop UIHC earlier this year.
