The Hawkeyes will field every player for the first time this fall as they compete today through Sunday in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Western Michigan Super Challenge.

“I love it when the whole team goes,” said sophomore Anastasia Reimchen. “The team’s complete.”

The field of competition this weekend will be small in numbers, but that does not mean it will be small in talent. Other teams include Western Michigan, Indiana, Louisville, and Marquette.

“It’s a great way to end the season,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “Strong competition. It’s going to be four doubles matches and three singles [for each player], so a lot of tennis.”

Iowa has fielded a plethora of combinations of players throughout the fall in an attempt develop team chemistry and get every player as much competition as possible before the official season begins in spring.

This weekend presents a final opportunity for growth for the players.

Iowa began the fall expected by many to be inevitable underdogs. The team often performed at a higher level than that, particularly as the season progressed.

“We’ve come a long way since August,” said Dougherty. “I’m excited to see how we finish up this fall.”
