Two families displaced from Iowa City fire

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a structure fire Dec. 1 at 10:11 p.m.

According to a release, officials initially responded to 413 Samoa Drive with Quint 2, Truck 1, Engine 1, and Battalion Chief. Truck 1 searched the condominium units to ensure all occupants were out and safe, and Johnson County Ambulance and MidAmerican Energy also assisted.

The fire was under control at 11:12 p.m. and completely extinguished at 12:18 a.m., the release said.

The fire started in an upstairs bathroom of the unit, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department Fire investigation team.

According to the release, occupants of condo units 413 and 409 were displaced as a result of the fire.
