Marshall trial reset

The trial for a suspect charged with first-degree murder in the death of Iowa City landlord has been reset for May 22, 2012, according to court documents.

Justin Alexander Marshall, who is one of three people charged with the killing of Broadway landlord John Verspyt, will have his case tried at 9 a.m. May 22 , with an estimated 10 days for court time, according to court filings.

The filings also indicated a final pretrial conference will be held on April 20.

Marshall was a resident of the Broadway apartments at the time of Versypt’s slaying. According to police complaints, witnesses said they heard a "pop" the night of the October 2009 shooting, saw people running, and heard Marshall knocking on a door asking to be let in.

Authorities also said Marshall was seen with Charles William Curtis Thompson, who was also charged with first-degree murder, the night before the shooting.
