Hawkeye diving coach receives award from Team USA

Longtime Iowa diving coach Bob Rydze received the Glenn McCormick Award from USA Diving on Sept. 17, according to a release. The award is given to individuals who make outstanding contributions to the sport.

Rydze received the award at the U.S. Aquatic Sports awards banquet in Jacksonville, Fla. He currently serves as USA Diving’s Chairman of the Board, and he is in his 37th season as Iowa’s diving coach.

His other national team accolades include a stint as the team leader of the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He has also served on USA Diving’s Committee for Competitive Excellence.

Rydze has been a member of the NCAA Diving Rules Committee and has coached four Olympians and 18 All-Americans — including his daughter, Veronica — during his tenure with the Hawkeyes.
