Nick Allgeyer became the third Iowa player to be selected in the 2018
MLB Draft on June 6, when the Toronto Blue Jays picked up the Hawkeye
ace in the 12th round (No. 356).

After missing the entire 2017 season after undergoing Tommy John
surgery, Allgeyer came back stronger than ever in 2018 to lead the
Hawkeyes on the mound.

In 15 starts, Allgeyer finished with a 5-4 record and 2.41 ERA. His 95
strikeouts placed him second all-time in program history, and his
performance in an impressive comeback year placed him on the All-Big
Ten first-team.

Allgeyer was a wizard on the mound all year, giving the Hawkeyes a
chance to win each time he took the bump, and he only allowed more
than 3 earned runs in a start once. He also tossed 3 shutouts. Every
time Allgeyer took the mound on a Friday in the home whites or the
road grays, fans knew something special could happen at any time.

Most recently, Allgeyer tossed a tremendous effort in Iowa’s opening
game of the Big Ten Tournament against Michigan, giving up just 1 run
on 4 hits and 3 walks in 7 strong innings, while also striking out 9,
tying a career-high.

In 2016, Allgeyer didn’t get a decision but posted a 3.44 ERA in a
team-high 22 appearances, making one start.

In addition to Allgeyer coming off the board, Kirkwood shortstop and
Iowa signee Korry Howell heard his name called just nine picks after
Allgeyer, getting selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with pick No. 365.
