The University of Iowa Dance Marathon held its 200K in a Day event on Wednesday at various locations across Iowa City. By providing different resources to dancers and leadership members, the group hoped to earn more than $200,000 in donations in 24 hours.“We have a sponsor for the day, which is UI credit union,” said Lindsey Lovik, the Dance Marathon business director. “They helped us with a matching hour.”
During the matching hour, noon to 1 p.m., all donations placed were matched by the credit union.

Other sponsors, such as Underground Printing, gave prizes to members who could raise a certain amount of money.
“We had lots of different events,” Lovik said. “One included a faculty and staff campaign in which we would place green flamingos into some faculty members’ offices.”

Faculty would then pay $30 in order to remove and relocate the flamingos. Another event was the lime lockup. In the lime lock up dancers would get thrown in “jail,” where they must raise $20 in order to be set free.

Dance Marathon hosted many events such as these in the hopes of reaching its 200k goal for the kids. All of the day’s donations go to the overall donation total the group has collected this year.
