An isolated fire broke out early in the morning of Oct. 31 at Slater Residence Hall, leaving significant water damage.

The incident took place around 1:30 a.m., causing an evacuation of the building. No injuries were reported, and the sprinkler system activated as intended, according to University of Iowa statements.

The cause is being investigated, though the fire appears to be unintentional.

The fire took place on the ninth floor and affected a single room. Officials also detailed water damage on several floors.

The two students involved have been provided a temporary space elsewhere in the building until the damages are repaired.

Residents returned to the residence hall shortly after the incident.

At this time, UI officials wait for further damage estimates as custodial and maintenance are assisting with the situation.
