Meyer nominated for Burlsworth Trophy

Mike Meyer, the senior kicker for the Iowa football team, has been nominated for the 2013 Burlsworth Trophy, the Springdale, Ark., Rotary Club announced Tuesday.

Meyer is one of 53 nominees for the award, which is given to a distinguished college football player who began his career as a walk-on. Meyer walked on to the Iowa program as a freshman in 2010 and has been the primary kicker for the Hawkeyes during the last four seasons.

Meyer has made 14-of-17 field-goal attempts and has been a perfect 31-of-31 on points after touchdowns. The native of Dubuque holds the school-record for 112-consecutive PATs.

Meyer was also announced to the Lou Groza Award Watch List prior to the 2013 season for the third-consecutive year, and is also on the College Football Performance Award Placekicker Trophy Watch List.
