Iowa women’s tennis rebounds against gophers

The Iowa women’s tennis team got off to a rough start this past weekend, suffering a 4-3 loss April 19 in Madison against Wisconsin. In doubles action, Iowa fared pretty well with a pair of wins by duos Morven McCulloch/Ruth Seaborne (8-5) and Shelby Talcott/Caitlin Hindmarsh (8-2).

The Hawkeyes, however, didn’t play as well in singles action. Aside from wins by Seaborne (6-4, 7-5) and Annette Dohanics (6-3, 6-2), the Badgers were able to win singles action and take the match.

Sunday was much more forgiving for the Hawkeyes; halted a two-match losing streak and knocked off Minnesota (6-1) at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center. McCulloch and Seaborne were again able to secure a doubles win (8-5), as were Talcott and Hindmarsh (8-1).  In singles action, Iowa beat up on the Gophers winning five out of six.  McCulloch played very strong, knocking off Paula Rincon Otero (6-1, 6-2).

After finishing the regular season at 10-12, the Hawkeyes will head to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Big Ten championships beginning Wednesday. Iowa was knocked out in the first round last year by the Gophers (4-2).
