The Iowa men’s swimming and diving team fell to seventh place Thursday evening on the second day of the Big Ten championships in Bloomington, Ind. The Hawkeyes broke two school records, and the team earned another qualification for the NCAAs.

The 400-medley relay team of sophomore Grant Betulius, freshman Roman Trussov, and seniors Byron Butler and Jordan Huff came in third, touching the wall at 3:10.18 and earning an NCAA “A” cut. That time broke the previous school record of 3:11.87 and earned Iowa its highest finish in the championships thus far.

Junior Tyler Lentz competed in the 200-individual medley C finals, where he broke his previous school mark of 1:46.82 with a time of 1:46.15 to come in 17th.

Junior Manuel Belzer competed in the C finals for the 500 freestyle, finishing 19th at 4:23.74. Sophomore Brian Donatelli also earned 19th in the C finals of the 50 free with a time of 20.36.

The Hawkeyes have 86 points. No. 3 Michigan continues to lead with 316 points, followed by No. 8 Indiana with 237 and No. 13 Ohio State with 170.

Iowa will kick off the third day today with preliminaries starting at 11 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
