Simpson headlines women’s track with new Iowa record at Bill Bergen Invite

The Iowa women’s track and field squad competed in Ames in the Bill Bergen Invitational this past weekend.

The entire team didn’t travel, so the Hawkeyes finished seventh out of 10 teams; however, they were not without standout individual performances.

Jasmine Simpson broke the school record in the weight throw with a toss of 62 feet, 6.5 inches en route to a third-place finish. Ashlyn Gulvas had set the standard at 60 feet, 7.75 inches last week at the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Neb. Gulvas set a new personal best with a throw of 60 feet, 10.75 inches at this past weekend’s meet.

Two other personal records were recorded in Ames this weekend.

Pole-vaulter Brittany Holst hoisted herself 11 feet, 3.75 inches to place eighth at the event, a mark that sits fourth all-time in Iowa history.

Senior Majesty Tutson also set a new standard for herself in the shot put, throwing the shot 44 feet, 8 inches to place ninth.

The Hawkeyes will travel to Notre Dame on Friday for the Meyo Invitational.
