Iowa’s Williams, Simpson, capture titles for women’s track at Adidas Classic

The Iowa women’s track and field team competed in the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 19, finishing third with 85 points and some individual standouts.

Captain Jasmine Simpson started off the day strong for Iowa, winning the weight throw with a mark of 59 feet, 11 inches. The toss ranks fourth all time in Iowa history. The Hawkeyes took four out of five top-five spots in the weight throw, with Annemie Smith placing third  (58 feet, 6 ¾ inches), school record holder Ashlyn Gulvas at fourth (57 feet, 8 ½ inches), and Majesty Tutson placing fifth  (56 feet, 10 inches).

Sophomore Khanishah Williams won the high jump title for Iowa, with a collegiate best jump of 5 feet, 9¼ inches. It’s William’s second title in two meets this season. She previously won the 60 hurdles when Iowa hosted the Iowa Open on Jan. 12.

The Hawkeyes will head to Ames on Friday to compete in the Bill Bergen Invitational.
