No. 13 Minnesota bests Hawkeyes in men’s swimming

The men’s swimming and diving team had hoped to start a winning streak against Minnesota on Nov. 2 but came up short against the Golden Gophers. No. 13 Minnesota topped the Hawkeyes, 165.5-132.5.

The Black and Gold took the victories in six events. Despite the loss, swimmers posted quicker times in eight races.

Senior Jordan Huff and freshman Roman Trussov had two individual first-place finishes. For the second-straight meet, Huff took the 100 (45.01) and 200 freestyle (1:39.22) while improving his times from the Michigan State dual.

Trussov again took the top spots in the 100 (55.08) and 200 (1:39.22) breaststrokes. The 400-free relay of Huff, sophomore Brian Donatelli, freshman David Ernstsson, and junior Gianni Sesto also snared a first-place finish.

Junior Dustin Rhoads snated another victory for the Hawkeyes in the 100 backstroke.

“It was a hard-fought match,” head coach Marc Long said in a release. “We will build off the meet as we prepare for the championship season.”

The Hawkeyes will have three weeks off from competition until they return to their home pool to host the Hawkeye Invitational on Nov. 30.
