Man was charged with third-offense OWI

An Iowa City man has been charged with a third offense-OWI.

Gustavo Pacheco-Montes, 25, 2018 Waterfront Drive No. 63, was charged Tuesday with a third-offense OWI and driving while barred as a habitual offender.

According to a North Liberty police complaint, police officers observed Pacheco-Montes driving a white jeep out of the parking lot of Kum & Go. Police reported they saw him pull into Sleep Inn and ran his plates, the complaint said. Police officials allegedly found that Pacheco-Montes did not have a valid license in Iowa.

When police officials pulled up to the vehicle, Pacheco-Montes exited the driver seat and appeared to throw something into a field, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, Pacheco-Montes was very intoxicated and was found to have a barred license.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony.

Driving while barred as a habitual offender is an aggravated misdemeanor.
