Big Ten Network to reward community service

The Big Ten Network will give an Iowa student a $1,000 scholarship this year, according to a release.

The network’s scholarship is a part of its new fall LiveBIG program, and it is based on community service; eligible students must be enrolled full-time and volunteer at least 10 hours by Dec. 9, the release said.

Interested students should submit an essay describing their service experience to the network between Nov. 14-Dec. 9. The network will choose five finalists in January and post them online for the public to read and vote on. The most popular essay will win the scholarship, to be awarded at the end of February.
