Former linebacker Rollins named Saturday’s honorary captain

Former Iowa linebacker Vernon Rollins will serve as the honorary captain for Iowa’s game Saturday against Louisiana Monroe.

Rollins was a four-year letter winner (1995-97, 99). Arriving at Iowa as one of the most highly-touted prep linebackers in the country, Rollins helped the Hawkeyes reach two Sun Bowls and an Alamo Bowl. Despite suffering a knee injury his junior year that allowed him to play only two full seasons, the Hackensack, N.J., native finished with 237 career tackles. He finished his sophomore year in 1996 with 126 tackles, and was named honorable mention all-Big Ten.

Rollins resides in Iowa City with his family and will join Iowa captains Mike Daniels, Marvin McNutt, Tyler Nielsen, and James Vandenberg at midfield for the pregame coin toss.
