The Iowa women’s tennis team lost to No. 16 Northwestern April 9 in Evanston, Ill., a day after it dropped its match against Illinois in Champaign, Ill..
The Wildcats grabbed the doubles point en route to its 6-1 defeat of the Hawkeyes. On April 8, Illinois beat Iowa, 5-2.
With the losses, Iowa’s record dropped to 2-4 in Big Ten play, 5-12 overall.
The No. 46 doubles team of senior Jessica Young and junior Sonja Molnar came up with a big win over Northwestern’s No. 7 tandem of Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton. Iowa’s duo however, fell against Illinois’ 20th-ranked double team of Rachael White and Allison Falkin.
Against the Wildcats, the only player to get a point for the Hawkeyes was Christina Harazin. The freshman, who was playing in the team’s No. 4 spot, played Brittany Wowchuk, the No. 50 ranked singles player in the country. Harazin battled it out for a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 victory.
Senior Alexis Dorr and No. 101 Molnar were the only Hawkeyes to pick up a point against the Fighting Illini, with both winning their respective singles matches.
