Iowa women take third place at LSU invite

The Iowa women’s track and field team took third place at the LSU Invitational on April 2 in Baton Rouge, La.

Freshman Carisa Leacock placed first in the long jump. She jumped for 6.08 meters (19 feet, 11 inches).

Other impressive finishes included that of senior captain Tiffany Hendricks. She took second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.55.

Freshman Ashley Liverpool took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.87.

Two throwers also placed in the top five of their field events. Kelsey Taylor, a redshirt freshman in the outdoor season and one of the team captains, took third place in the hammer throw. She tossed 52.42 meters (172 feet). Sophomore Majesty Tutson took fourth in the discus with a throw of 45.57 meters (149.6 feet).

The Iowa A team 4×400-meter relay of Hendricks, senior Bethany Praska, Liverpool, and freshman Erin Jones took fourth place in the event with a time of 3:41.39. The Iowa B team of junior Nicole Erickson, Leacock, junior Kelsey Mims, and freshman Adrianne Alexia took fifth with a time of 3:46.41.

The Hawkeyes will be in action in Tempe, Ariz., when they will compete in the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State on Friday and Saturday.
