Hawkeye gymnasts face Big Ten foes in triangular meet

The Iowa men’s gymnastics team will face a familiar team and a not-so-familiar team on Saturday night.

The No. 10 Hawkeyes will take on No. 8 Minnesota and No. 4 Penn State in a triangular meet at 7 p.m. at Minnesota’s Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. The Hawkeyes faced Minnesota in a dual meet in Iowa City on Feb. 11, as well as at the Windy City Invitational on Jan. 15. Minnesota topped Iowa in both meetings.

Penn State and Iowa have not faced each other this season. The Nittany Lions boast an undefeated record in dual meets, as well as two gymnasts — Felix Aronovich on vault and Scott Rosenthal on rings — that are ranked in nation’s top three in their events.

Iowa head coach JD Reive expects his team to be ready for competition two weeks after the squad’s best performance of the season, on Feb. 19 against Nebraska. He said his team needs to concentrate on its routines — and less on the final result —to be successful.

“If we do what we need to do, the results will come,” he said.
