Baseball heads south for potentially rainy weekend

The Iowa baseball team will travel to Starkville, Miss., this weekend to play Georgia State and Mississippi State.

The Hawkeyes (1-4) are scheduled to face both teams twice, beginning with a double-header today.

Sophomore Ricky Sandquist (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will take the hill against Georgia State in the 12:30 game, and junior Jarred Hippen (1-1, 4.50) will start against Mississippi State in the nightcap.

Junior Nick Brown (0-0, 3.38) will start against Mississippi State on Saturday, and sophomore Matt Dermody (0-2, 4.15) will complete the weekend against Georgia State on March 6.

Weather could interfere with the Hawkeyes’ scheduling for the second-straight week, though — thunderstorms are predicted in Starkville tonight and Saturday. Two Iowa games scheduled in Lawrence, Kan., last weekend were canceled because of snow.
