Three to join Wieczorek’s squad next year

Iowa men’s track and field coach Larry Wieczorek announced the addition of three athletes to his 15th-ranked squad on Monday. Brennan Davey, Gabe Hull, and Kevin Lewis signed national letters of intent to join the Hawkeyes starting next fall.

Lewis, hailing from Ottumwa High, won the 4A state cross-country championship this past fall. On the track, he placed fourth in the 3,200 meters and second in the 1,600 meters at the 2010 Iowa State Track and Field Championships.

Davey, another Iowa native, was the 4A state champion in the 800 meters last spring. He was also on the state champion 1,600-meter relay team for Indianola. He finished second in the 400 meters at the state meet.

Hull is a nationally ranked thrower in both the discus and shot put. The Bloomington, Ind., native ranks sixth in the country in each event. He won the 2010 state championship in the discus.

“I’m very excited about this group of men,” Wieczorek said in a release. “They’ve all been successful in their respective events, and they all have championship experience.”
