Men’s tennis falls to ranked Arkansas and Santa Clara

The Iowa men’s tennis team lost to No. 71 Arkansas, 6-1, and No. 47 Santa Clara, 4-3, this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.

Junior Will Vasos was the only Hawkeye to win a singles match against Arkansas on Feb. 11, and he and junior Marc Bruche took the only doubles win. The two were Iowa’s most successful, winning both of their doubles matches.

The Hawkeyes looked better on Feb. 12 against Santa Clara, splitting the singles matches but losing two out of three doubles matches.

Senior Austen Kauss said he doesn’t think the consecutive losses will dampen the team’s spirits.

“I don’t pay attention to losing,” he said. “We will use this as a learning experience for the next couple of matches.”

Iowa, (1-3 overall) will play Illinois State on Friday and Western Michigan on Feb. 20 at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center.
