Throwers impress for women at track intrasquad

As a late afternoon darkness set through the windows of the UI Recreation Building on Dec. 3, the women’s track and field team was in the midst of making team improvements across the board.

One area head coach Layne Anderson was pleased with was the throws group.

Although it can’t be recorded as an official record, redshirt freshman thrower Rachel Curry posted a personal-best in the shot put with a throw of 13.94 meters.

In the 60-meter dash, freshman Erin Jones came out on top with a time of 7.73 seconds. Sophomore sprinter Raven Moore came in close behind with a time of 7.83 seconds.

Anderson said he was also pleased with the performances in the 300 meters as well. Senior Tiffany Hendricks came in first with a time of 40.39 seconds in the finals, followed by freshman Ashley Liverpool with a time of 40.76 seconds.

"It’s nice to see newcomers really get going and some of the returners how much progress they’ve made from last year to this year," Anderson said. "I think we’re a much improved team."
