Grimm, Windsor honored

Two Iowa soccer players were honored by the Big Ten for their performances this season.

Hawkeye defender Jade Grimm made the All-Freshmen team. The Cedar Rapids native was a key cog in a Hawkeye defense that tallied six shutouts this season. She started every match in her rookie campaign.

Senior cocaptain Heather Windsor was also honored as the Iowa soccer team’s nominee for the Big Ten sportsmanship award.

A native of Temecula, Calif., Windsor is now a candidate for the Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship award, which is given to one male and one female athlete at the end of the year.

“That award embodies who Heather is as a student and an athlete,” Iowa head coach Ron Rainey said. “I consider her the perfect teammate. The All-Freshman team is a super honor for Jade in her first year in the Big Ten. I hope that it spurs her to achieve even more as she heads into her second year. I think they are neat awards, and anytime you get an individual award, it’s a reflection of the team that is so supportive around them.”
