Hawks to hold wrestle-offs

The Iowa wrestling team will host an intrasquad wrestle-offs this week in the Dan Gable Wrestling Complex in Carver-Hawkeye Arena beginning on Thursday.

Matches are scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and Saturday’s final action will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The defending Big Ten and national champion Hawkeyes will open the 2009-10 season on Nov. 14 at the Harold Nichols Open in Ames.

Iowa will compete in its first home dual on Nov. 20, when the Hawkeyes host the six-team Iowa City Duals in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa will wrestle Coe at 10:30 a.m., Cornell College at noon, Iowa Lakes at 1:30 p.m., North Carolina-Pembroke at 3 p.m., and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 5 p.m.

The Hawkeyes dominated the Iowa City Duals last season, only allowing three points to Minnesota State-Mankato and shutting out Iowa Central, Coe, and Arizona State.
