A place for us to reminisce about the movies we loved, lost, and still live for to this day.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie

“It’s morphin’ time!”

God, I loved the Power Rangers. I had every toy — the Rangers themselves, their Zords, their weapons, PC games, and even pajamas.

I was 8 years old when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie hit theaters, and as you can imagine I was first in line. I went on a Saturday afternoon with my mom dressed as the red ranger — spandex, boots, crappy plastic mask, the works. The theater had a special kids popcorn meal (for probably about $8) with nifty little take home cups with Power Ranger logos on them, and I was so damn excited.

After I got my goodies, my mom and I quickly moved to our seats, and I prepared for what would be one of the greatest moments of my life — and it happened. The Power Rangers launched onto screen, the first moments inside an airplane. They all jumped out, each doused in their respective colored outfits doing trick skydiving. I want to say the theater erupted with cheering and applause, but I’m pretty sure that was in my head.

After the glorious skydiving, the Rangers hit the streets in their roller blades for some cheesy stunts that, again, were totally awesome. Soon though, the plot twisted, and evil made its face as Ivan Ooze — a 1,000-year-old monster who infects the world with his evil ooze, taking kid’s parents as slaves.

After writing about how badass the Power Rangers were, I realized they were cornier than our great state of Iowa — but not one part of me cares. I loved them. They were my heroes. And I’m proud to claim Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as one of the best movies ever made.
