Another Hawkeye pitcher is off the board.

Brady Schanuel was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 27th round
(No. 815) of the 2018 MLB Draft. Schanuel is the third Hawkeye pitcher
to be selected in this year’s draft, following Nick Allgeyer (Round
12, Toronto Blue Jays) and Zach Daniels (Round 19, Atlanta Braves) and
the fifth Iowa player to be taken.

Schanuel possesses a decent amount of potential, but he had an
up-and-down year on the mound in his first year as a Hawkeye.

He finished the 2018 season with a 5-7 record in 13 starts, posting a
5.94 ERA. He did have a knack for punching out opposing hitters,
though, racking up 65 strikeouts in 53 innings.

His potential showed in his start against Indiana on March 23.
Schanuel tossed 7 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit while
striking out 11, the frosting on a cakewalk against the Hoosiers.

Before Schanuel came to Iowa, he was a two-time All-American at
Parkland College in Illinois, earning first-team honors in 2017 and
second-team honors in 2016. Schanuel closed 2017 with a 10-1 record
and 2.13 ERA, helping his team to third place at the Juco World
Series.

This is Schanuel’s third time getting drafted. The Swansea, Illinois,
native got picked in the 26th round in 2015 by the Oakland Athletics
and was taken in the 20th round in 2016 by the Philadelphia Phillies.
