Iowa City woman charged with child endangerment

Authorities have accused an Iowa City woman with abusing her child.

Shelly Johns, 44, was charged with two counts of child endangerment — bodily injury on Feb. 23.

According to online court documents, Johns’ 10-year-old daughter had a circular injury under her right eye.

The daughter said her mother burned her with a cigarette because she was upset with her. Johns allegedly admitted to the action and said she disciplines her daughter by smacking her, pulling her hair, and kicking her.

Child endangerment — bodily injury is a Class-D felony.
