Tennis nets three thirds in Furman

The Iowa women’s tennis team took home three third-place finishes in the singles flight bracket at the Furman Fall Classic during this past weekend.

Seniors Shelby Talcott and Morven McCulloch and freshman Anastasia Reimchen, in her tournament début, each finished third in her flight, the highest finishes for the Hawkeyes.

Talcott beat Tenessee’s Brittany Lindl (5-7, 6-2, 6-3). McCulloch scored her win over South Carolina’s Brigit Folland (6-2, 6-3). Reimchen defeated Harper Caswell of Furman (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 [10-6]).

Freshman Montana Crawford continued her winning ways, winning all three of her matches this weekend to remain undefeated on the season.

Other finishes for the Hawkeyes included a fourth for senior Ellen Silver, a seventh for junior Annette Dohanics, and eighth for senior Katie Zordani in their respective brackets.

Despite their success at the Gopher Invitational, the Hawkeyes doubles pairings, which remained the same all weekend, were not as strong, with Reimchen and Zordani finishing fifth, the Hawkeyes’ highest finish.

The Hawkeyes will now have almost three weeks to prepare for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regionals, which will take place Oct. 16-20 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
