Iowa City pharmacist trial begins

The trial for an Iowa City pharmacist began Monday with jury selection.

Michael Stein, the owner of Pharmacy Matters, 230 Scott Court, has pleaded not guilty to 15 counts of health-care fraud in federal court.

Prosecutors say Stein billed Wellmark for drugs used to treat hemophilia, when the pharmacy did little work to distribute the drugs but acted as a “pass-through entity,” granting access to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield network.
