Illinois man charged after possessing marijuana and paraphernalia

A Geneseo, Ill., man has been accused possessing marijuana and paraphernalia.

Stephan Gernant, 22, was charged Sunday with OWI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession/delivery of marijuana.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Gernant stopped as a possible drunk driver. Officers located him at the exit of a parking ramp.

He admitted to drinking and driving but said he had only had two drinks. However, his preliminary breath test reportedly resulted in .147 blood-alcohol content.

Gernant refused Datamaster testing. Upon arresting him, officers searched his car and allegedly found numerous containers of marijuana exceeding one ounce, a digital scale with marijuana residue, $138 cash, a marijuana grinder, and many glass pipes.

Gernant reportedly admitted to possessing all of these items.

Possession of drug paraphernalia is a simple misdemeanor. OWI is a serious misdemeanor.

Possession/delivery of marijuana is a Class-D felony.
