Iowa City man charged after hit and run

An Iowa City man has been accused of causing a hit and run.

Patrick White, 30, was charged Tuesday with third-offense OWI.

According to an Iowa City Police complaint, officers responded to reports of a hit and run at Highway1 and Sunset Street.

A man stated he was stopped at a stoplight behind White’s vehicle when White backed into him and sped away.

The officer caught up with White at his residence on Rohret Road as he was getting out of his vehicle.

Upon confrontation, the officer immediately noticed his watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and smell of alcohol on his person.

White admitted to drinking two beers and a shot before driving and stated he had just arrived when the officer pulled up.

White cooperated with standard field sobriety tests, which indicated he was intoxicated. His preliminary breath test was .139.

White has previous convictions on March 24, 2009 and Sept. 8, 2009.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony.
