Iowa City woman charged after assaulting a child under her care

An Iowa City woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting a child under her care.

Bessie Pulley, 56, was charged on July 10 with assault causing bodily injury.

According to a police complaint, on Sunday, an officer received a call that a child was at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics with a facial injury that allegedly came from the child’s daycare provider. An investigation allegedly showed that the injury most likely occurred while the child was in Pulley’s care. The cause of injury was determined to be a slap to the face. Reportedly, a hand mark could be seen on the child’s face from chin to ear. According to the complaint, Pulley denied the allegation.

Assault causing bodily injury is a serious misdemeanor.
