Men’s golf in the middle of the pack after day 1 of the U.S. Intercollegiate

The Iowa men’s golf team completed the first round of the U.S. Intercollegiate on Thursday in Palo Alto, Calif., tied for 10th with Northwestern at 284 (plus-4).

One half of the two host schools, Stanford, leads the team competition at 272.

Sophomore Brian Bullington is tied for 19th after shooting a score of 69 (minus-1). Not far behind him in the field of 96 are Steven Ihm and Joseph Winslow, who both shot 71, good enough to tie for 31st.

Freshman Nate Yankovich shot a 73 in his first true outing on Iowa’s traveling squad, putting him in a tie for 61st. No. 1 man on the squad, Ian Vandersee, shot an uncharacteristic 76 placing in a tie for 83rd.

Iowa will continue play today in the second round out of three.
