Iowa men’s golf dominates in Big Four Championship win

The Iowa men’s golf team lit up the competition at the Big Four Match Play Championships in Chandler, Ariz., which featured competition from Iowa State, Drake and UNI.

The Hawkeyes made a clean sweep in their first match against Drake, winning 6-0. Iowa finished a combined 64 strokes better than the Bulldogs in the stroke-play match.

The Hawkeyes then erased the Cyclones in the finals of the event, winning the team match 5-1.  The Black and Gold were led by Steven Ihm, who shot a tournament low 65 (6-under) en route to his second win of the weekend. Ihm was one of five Iowa golfers to have total weekend score below par.

“We always look forward to competing with and against our fellow Iowa universities,” head coach Mark Hankins said in a release. “It feels good to get a decisive win. We’ve won this event before, but it was nice to do it convincingly this time.”

The men’s golf team will be out of competition for a month, then resume play on March 28 in the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.
