The No.18 Iowa men’s swimming and diving team traveled to Bloomington, Ind., on Sunday to compete against Big Ten rivals No. 6 Ohio State and No. 10 Indiana after more than a month away from competition.

The time off didn’t help the Hawkeyes overcome the higher-ranking teams; Iowa fell to the Buckeyes, 183-105, and the Hoosiers, 172-126.

The 200-medley relay — sophomores Grant Betulius and Korey Schneider and seniors Byron Butler and Jordan Huff — was able to land second place. The 400-freestyle relay — sophomore Brian Donatelli, Betulius, freshman David Ernstsson, and Huff were also runner-ups.

Huff was the only Hawkeye have a first-place finish. The native of Dubuque swam a time of 1:38.66 to win the 200 freestyle.

Iowa also had many individual runner-ups. Junior Dustin Rhoads finished second in the 100 backstroke, junior Manuel Belzer in the 500 freestyle, and Butler in the 100 freestyle

“We had some great swims. We won both relays against Indiana,” Long said in a release. “I was disappointed we couldn’t pull off an upset against two top-10 teams, but we’ll learn from this and use it to get ready for Northwestern next weekend.”

The Black and Gold are set to compete against the Wildcats at home on Saturday.
